OUR SERVICES

We go out of our way to give you the smile you want in the most comfortable environment possible. One goal is to make certain our patients are in good health beginning with their mouth and are all well informed and educated. Dr. Otrhalek recognizes that there is a direct link between gum disease and heart disease, stroke, lung disease, Alzheimer's and low birth weight babies. Research from the American Medical Association shows that this bacteria in the mouth adversely affects the entire body. As a result, Dr. Otrhalek at Woods Dentistry utilizes modern technology to diagnose and successfully treat existing gum disease and provides many services to prevent it from happening in the first place including twice a year routine cleanings, x-rays, and check ups.

Dr. Otrhalek provides the very best cosmetic and restorative dentistry to his patients treating everyone fairly with compassion, a gentle touch, and empathy at reasonable fees. The professional team at Woods Dentistry provides a multitude of services including Invisalign to teens and adults who prefer not to wear braces, Lumineers which are porcelain veneers that can be made as thin as a contact lens and do not require removing painful tooth structure, Sapphire teeth whitening in our office or Opalesence for at home whitening, implant restorations, natural looking crowns and bridges, root canals, extractions, and more. Emergency patients are treated promptly and we always follow up with a care call after major work has been done.

Initial Oral Examination
At your first appointment, Dr. Otrhalek will do an initial oral exam, which includes a visual examination, tooth charting, periodontal probing, diagnosis, and treatment recommendations. We will also take x-rays for the proper diagnosis of decay and possible bone loss.

Whitening
Have your teeth become stained as a result of the food and drink that you consume or are dark due to antibiotics? Dental Whitening uses an ingredient that effectively lifts the stain from deep within your enamel. The results produce a whiter, more youthful smile. We offer two methods: our in office system using a state of the art activation light that yields results in about an hour or our convenient, less expensive take home system that can be used during the day or night and will yield results in 10 to 14 days.

Crowns and Bridges
Dental crowns are a protective covering that is bonded or cemented onto your tooh. It is custom made in a dental laboratory and may be recommended for a tooth that has a large filling, a root canal, fracture, is severly damaged, stained or chipped; they also are used to hold dental bridges in place. Crowns are sometimes referred to as caps and are made from porcelain, metal or a combination of materials. Placement over the visible part of the tooth adds strength and improves appearance. A bridge is recommended when a tooth or teeth are missing. A bridge is 3 or more crowns linked together. It helps provide a continuous chewing surface, keeps teeth from drifting out of place, protects teeth and improves one's appearance. Dr. Otrhalek, an expert in restorative dentistry, can provide these quality restorations that are an excellent investment in your long term dental and physical health.

Cosmetic Dentistry
Patients select cosmetic dental procedures for many reasons-to repair a defect such as a malformed bite or crooked teeth, treat an injury, or improve their overall appearance. Whatever your reason, our ultimate goal is to restore your teeth to a healthy, beautiful smile!

Tooth-Colored Fillings
Silver fillings are less expensive than tooth-colored feelings, but the disadvantages are quite significant as far as aesthetics are concerned, there isn't any comparison. Dental composite fillings are made from a tooth-colored resin that looks and feels like natural teeth. The resin is bonded to teeth, making them stronger and more natural looking. Unlike traditional silver fillings, composite fillings do not contain any toxic or damaging mercury and won't turn black over time.

Bonding
A tooth colored material that looks like the enamel of your teeth is molded and shaped adn then hardened and polished. It is used to correct teeth that are chipped or spaced too far apart. It can also be used to replace silver fillings that have become black.

Implants
Dental implants are small titanium posts that are surgically placed in the jawbone to act as an anchor for replacement teeth. After a period of healing, the implant acts like the root of a tooth over which a crown is placed, keeping bone loss to a minimum. Implants support a single crown, long span bridges and are often uset to hold complete dentures in place. They are long term restorations, provide excellent results and are comfortable, natural looking and high functioning.

Laser Disease Detection
The DIAGNOdent laser light harmlessly and precisely detects cavities 76% sooner than with a dental instrument alone. It has been approved by the FDA as 100% accurate.

Invisible Braces - Invisalign
A most innovative advance in dentistry is the ability to straighten your teeth without traditional metal brackets. In the practice of John Otrhalek, DDS, FAGD, we use a series of clear, plastic, removable "aligners" which are computer generated to gently and progessively alter the position of your teeth until they are correctly aligned. Since they are almost invisible, our patients are seen smiling as much during treatment as after. Ask our team if Invisalign "invisible braces" are right for you.

Lumineers and Veneers
Lumineers by Cerinate are porcelain veneers that do not require removal of painful tooth structure and are as thin as a contact lens. They are used as a solution for covering permanently stained, chipped, discolored, misaligned teeth, or even revitalizing old crowns and bridgework. Traditional veneers aren't as thin and do require removal of some of the tooth surface; however, they are also used for the above dental problems. You and Dr. Otrhalek can decide which one to use.

Preventative Dentistry
Having your teeth cleaned professionally on a regular basis either two or three times a year is one of the easiest ways of practicing preventative dentistry. This action will prevent a condition from developing or worsening. The act of removing plaque and calculus from your teeth by brushing twice a day and flossing daily also helps to prevent plaque from hardening into tartar. Our highly trained hygienists at Woods Dentistry will custom develop a schedule of appointments and home care regimen to prevent the advance of gum disease in order to preserve your healthy smile and any restorations for years to come.

NTI Tension Support System
This system has been approved by the FDA for the prevention of medically diagnosed Migraine pain and Tension-type Headaches. This is considered a tremendous breakthrough in that when used as directed, there is no risk of side-effects as compared to many pharmaceutical migraine preventatives.

Mouth Guards
If you are an athelete or casual sports participant, you need to wear a mouth guard to protect your teeth. Also, if you grind your teeth while you sleep, a bite guard will help to reduce pain in your jaw. At Woods Dentistry, we make custom mouth guards in both soft and hard materials.

Sealants
Sealants are thin coatings applied to the chewing surfaces and are designed to prevent the intrusion of bacteria and other debris into the deep crevices on the tops of your teeth that may ultimately cause decay.

Scaling and Root Planing
Advanced gum disease requires the hygienist to clean below the gum line to remove stubborn deposits called tartar or calculus in order to remove the damage near the tooth root. Periodontal gum disease is present in 7 out of 10 adults causing tooth loss, bone deterioration and other very serious health problems such as increased risk for heart attack, stroke, lung disease, Alzheimer's and low birth weight babies. This deep cleaning is done to prevent further damage, restore and stabilize the teeth and decrease added risks to your health.

Smile Rejuvenation
Just the loss of one tooth can result in the tipping, drifiting, and erupting of neighboring and opposing teeth. The loss of one or several teeth can result in the inability to chew and speak effectively. It can also lead to the collapse of your bite causing stress on your jaw joints, facial muscles, and a reduction of the vertical dimension of your face. All of this can create an older facial appearance with noticeable lines. Dr. Otrhalek's expert restorative and cosmetic dentistry can correct these concerns to improve not only your smile but your facial appearance.
